Verity couldn't stop smiling when she called and it was audible in her voice. "Hey, it's Verity," she said when the machine engaged. "Just got back from the West Coast. Got your present, by the way. The mice are thrilled. Thanks for that. And, funny enough, my schedule's pretty open. So you let me know whenever you've got a night free, cause mine will be. Talk to you later."
Rosa hadn't remembered promising to bring Kitty food. At least, she thought it was Kitty. It sounded like her, and she was pretty much Rosa's only friend on the island, anyway...at least, the only person she didn't work with or hate whose name she bothered to remember. And who was she to deny a pregnant lady friend food, whether they'd agreed on it previously or not?
"Hey. It's Diaz. What did you want? 'Cause I got you. Unless you want pickles and ice cream or something like that. I don't think I could be down with that.
"I think I could be down with 'tipping well,' though, if that means what I think it means. For the record."
As soon as Rosa got off the phone with Meathead, she dialed up Liam.
"Kincaid, it's Diaz. Alenko called looking for you to let you know he's okay and to check up on you. Seriously, just give him your phone number already."
Unless he already had it and was just an idiot. Rosa wasn't going to be quick to rule that one out, either.
Kaidan had bribed some squirrels. On the morning of Christmas Eve, on Liam's desk at the station, a wrapped present appears with a tag bearing his name.
Inside are a pair of fingerless black gloves. The palm area is stitched and quilted with a double layer of leather and possibly a thin layer of padding.
Liam wasn't the first person Duke thought of to notify, but he did, eventually, shortly before dawn on Friday, realize that it might be nice to let the trooper's station know about Octavia. So Liam got a short text:
He didn't know a lot about the specifics of her life before Fandom, but it wasn't hard to extrapolate based on how she'd been back when they'd first met, three years ago. Hell, how she'd been up until a few months before she'd vanished, honestly. So, yeah, he wasn't expecting her time away to have been a good one.
Weirdly, Duke had managed to miss how close the two of them were. Probably because Liam hadn't shown up insisting on hugging Duke for Octavia like Magnus had.
Yeah, Liam wasn't much for touching in general when it came to most people. Though if Duke had been the one to disappear, he probably would've shown up to hug Octavia.
Well, shit.
Nice and eloquent, that. That time went weird for some people wasn't new, but it hit differently when it wasn't just abstract knowledge.
Let me know...
If Duke was actively looking at his screen, he'd see the '...' of 'someone is typing a message' for a minute or so as Liam contemplated how to finish that thought.
Let me know when she's feeling up to visitors. He decided on, eventually. He figured they'd want some time alone. God knows he would, if he'd been separated from Verity for seven years.
Dimly it occurred to him that the polite thing to do would be inquire about her brother, too, but Bellamy Blake had always been more of a concept than an actual person in Liam's mind, so he didn't.
Despite remembering that other people would want to know she was back, too, Duke's instant reaction to that text was to say no, to keep it just the two of them for as long as possible.
But Octavia would need a whole kru eventually. And it wasn't fair to keep her from her people.
Liam stared at the message on his Global for a solid minute or two as he tried to formulate a response.
Do you want to go to university? he asked, finally.
He certainly never had! But then, he’d gotten his first job within 24 hours of being born, so he was aware he was a bit of an outlier in many respects.
Like you said, not an option where you’re from, so that makes sense Liam pointed out.
I think you’d do amazingly well at anything you decided to do. University included. Though it would probably involve keeping things like your ability to do magic a secret.
There was no magic in his world, after all, and it was still a well-kept secret in Verity’s, enough so that attracting the wrong sort of attention could be incredibly dangerous.
Whenever a text to Nina went unanswered, there were usually only two solutions. One was to start worrying/panicking a little bit, and the other was to try, try again.
Well, honestly, Annie was a little offended by that tone, but she still was going to try to be nice when she called back.
"I don't want to kiss you either! I mean, we did that one time, but that was, like, an emergency? But my kisses are otherwise spoken for, too, you know that!"
"Wow. You are not my mom, so you don't get to drag me by my ear anywhere. I don't care what kind of badge you carry. Also, if I'm blowing something up, it's for a damned good reason."
Of COURSE she was going to participate. This was too good a chance to prank people to pass up!
"That's really too bad, I think a picnic in the park would be delightful. I'm not sure why you would find it weird? If it's the flamingos, I promise, my sister-in-law has taught me the proper way of dealing with them. Do you play croquet?"
Stark had never been propositioned via text message before. It was a pity there had been noone else around to see his face when he read the message. After staring at it for several minutes he tried to reply.
I am not busy later. But I think it would be best if I bathed alone. This is a bit too sudden for me."
Liam did not need any explosives, thank you, but now he was very concerned about what you might be doing with those explosives you have access to, Steven.

Octavia was his friend.
How is she?

Help
Since she was actually asking for help, like, she didn't feel bad for that unceremonious start to things.
(She just felt bad for needing to ask for help.)
Beach.
A location was probably helpful, right? Right. Good. Mission done, she was going to just keep working on breathing.

As your daughter, are you expecting me to go to, like, uni or college????????

But he added a minute later, It would be a bit hypocritical of me to expect it of you when I never went, wouldn’t it?

She wasn't going to share that with her dad though.
And I'd have to, like, actually pick a topic and stick with it........
She was kind of bad at that too.

Phone Day
I think someone stole a barstool. Why would someone steal a barstool? How would someone steal a barstool?
Wacky Phone Day!
Pretty sure you got the wrong number there. Not a kid, not interested in dating you. But best of luck.

Well I'm not into siblings myself. I did take my cousin to prom which his therapist later told him that it did more harm than good.
Wacky phone day!
