MHA #6, Friday Morning

Though he was getting better in general at the whole occasional sleeping-in thing, Fridays as a rule weren't the day for that, given that Liam usually headed in to the station on Fridays.

Today, of course, was different. Because the Liam who was wrapped in a blanket-burrito currently was much smaller- and younger- than usual. And as was tradition when any sort of Fandom weirdness affected him, he didn't wake up at his usual hour. So sleeping in, if somewhat unintentionally, was definitely happening today.

Did Liam really regret not having the roof of his mouth lacerated by Cap'n Crunch cereal? Probably not. But that didn't stop Verity from insisting that he just haaaaaad to try it! (While turning her nose up at Crunch Berries because they were gross and should be avoided at all cost).

"I'm gonna have two bowls!" Verity decided. "Three if its a kind with marshellos!"

"There's..." Liam pushed a chair up to the counter so he reach to open up all the cupboards. "This kind?" That did indeed have marshmallows, judging by the picture on the box. "And this kind?" The picture on this box was pretty boring, and he peered inside. And frowned in confusion.

"Not cereal," he declared, pulling out a plastic dagger with a button on the hilt. Which he pressed, naturally, causing it to light up and emit a series of noises.

"Oh cool!" Verity said, seeing absolutely nothing amiss with having knives hidden away in a cereal box. The weirdest thing was that they were fake. "Is that the toy that came with the cereal?"

"Maybe?" Liam said dubiously. Except it was the only thing in the box, no cereal at all. He pulled out another couple of boxes, with a cartoon pirate and vampire on them respectively. "These look better," he declared.

"Ooooh," Verity said, looking suitably impressed. "Which one is your favorite?" she offered, trying to be polite.

And when they were back to being grown-ups was Liam going to tease her about that politeness?

Absolutely, because grown-up Verity would absolutely fight Liam for dibs when it came to food.

"I don't know," Liam admitted. "I've never had any."

Verity looked suitably upset. "Not even one time?" she asked. "Not even when you're good?!"

He'd only been around for a few days! And he'd been... kind of enamored of the sandwiches she'd introduced him to to think of trying cereal. Until now.

"There wasn't any, where I was before."

Of course, he'd only been where he was 'before' for literal minutes before being whisked away to Fandom, but details.

"Well, now you gotta try all of 'em," Verity declared. "So you know which ones you like best."

That... made sense.

Still, he needed somewhere to start. "Which one do you like best?"

"The ones with the marshellos," Verity said. "I eat all the boring bits first and then it's just all marshellos! They turn the milk colors, too."

Once, Alex had said that it made the milk look like throw up. So she'd punched him.

That sounded... well. Kind of interesting.

"I'll try that first, then!" he said brightly, rummaging around in the cupboards until he found two bowls.

"I'll pour you only a little bowl," Verity decided, not at all because she wanted to make sure there was plenty for herself, of course not. "Cause you gotta try the other ones, too."

Pfft of course not, Verity was absolutely the best at sharing.

(Okay, she had volunteered to share her parents with Liam, which was pretty nice.)

He knew she'd said they were supposed to put milk in the bowl too, but when she'd finished pouring the cereal, he couldn't help but reach out and grab one of the little pieces. The brightly-colored ones, not the boring ones.

Liam popped it in his mouth. "Oh!" he exclaimed. That was very... what was the word? Sweet? He liked it, he decided.

True and with Antimony, there wasn't a whole lot of parental attention to spare, either.

"Aren't they good?" Verity asked, beaming at him. "They're a little chewy when they're dry, but when you get 'em all wet they get soft and squishy."

"I like it," he decided. He then tried one of the boring looking bits for comparison.

"Soft and squishy is better?" he checked, since Verity was pretty much the authority on... well, everything, as far as he was concerned.

"Yeah," Verity said with a nod. "They're a little fizzy in your mouth, kinda. And squishy is way better'n chewy."

It just was. Food texture was very important to six-year-olds.
