A Traveling Carnival Currently Set Up Somewhere In Virginia, Wednesday Afternoon

The other day, Liam had offhandedly mentioned to Verity that he'd tried funnel cake, and been unimpressed with it. He had not been prepared for the outraged grumbling that had followed that pronouncement. Or the vaguely ominous declaration that this needed to be 'fixed'.

Come Wednesday afternoon, she'd told him that they had a portal booked to the mainland and to bring cash. Actual physical cash, not just a credit card. Curious, he'd pressed her for details, but all she'd say was just "You'll see when we get there."

'There' was apparently a traveling carnival, complete with rides, midway games... and, of course, food stands.

"Is this the one you threatened to ground Hayley from for the summer?" he asked, curious.

"Pretty sure that's not true," Verity said, hitting reverse to get away - And slamming into the poor preteen, who glared at them. "Those kids didn't strike me as not knowing what's up."

“Still think there’s some topics it’s best to avoid until they’re a little older,” Liam said drily, lining up to attempt to hit her again. “There’s some things you just don’t talk about in front of toddlers. Especially if you don’t want it repeated to everyone within earshot.”

Had he been reading up on parenting? You bet.

"Pretty sure we only get one of those," Verity pointed out, jostling as their cars slammed bumpers. "The other two...skip that stage."

“Preschooler, then,” Liam amended with a smile. “Still tiny.”

"You're killing my baby-boner," Verity whispered, right before she tried ramming into him again.

“Just making sure you really know what you’re getting into,” Liam retorted, swerving.

"I already know what I'm getting into," Verity said with a smile. "A family."

She jerked her chin towards another car that was coming down between them.

“Good,” he said. “I’m glad.”

Their targets would be less so, in a minute.

"We make a good team," Verity called before slamming into one side of the targeted bumper car.

"We do," Liam acknowledged, slamming in to the other side. Sorry, obnoxious teenagers who were making out during bumper cars.

"Think we're winning?" he asked innocently. Yes, he was aware you couldn't actually win at bumper cars.

"Pretty sure," Verity said, backing up and grinning at the offended squawks from the teens. She lunged forward, aiming for the back of the Liam's car. "Now I think I am."

Liam swerved out of the way, smirking at her.

"Nice try, but I'm not that easy to take from behind."

At least.

Not when they were wearing clothes.

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's not true," Verity cackled, trying again.

Liam's attempt to get out of the way was only partially successful this time, and she still managed to clip the side of his car as he turned.

"I have no idea what you're talking about," he said, tone all innocence.

"See if I call Dominic when we're done with the carnival then," Verity teased, now trying to zoom away.

“That’s a cheap shot!” Liam called out in mock outrage as he tried to follow.

Kinda hard in a vehicle with an average speed of 5 miles per hour.

"That's a terrible way to talk about your boyfriend in public!" Verity retorted with maniacal giggles, foot stomping the accelerator to the floor.

"Not what I meant and you know it!" Liam retorted as this incredibly high speed chase continued. "But I am going to tell him that you were defending him in public. Because that's adorable."
