MHA #6, Monday Afternoon
Oct. 20th, 2019 10:44 pmThe events of the past summer had made it readily apparent that Liam's usual method of dealing with problems- that is, compartmentalizing and continuing on like it wasn't an issue- wasn't particularly effective anymore. Trauma, Verity had insisted on classifying... the events of pretty much the entire first half of his life. Not to mention what he- what they had gone through during the summer. She'd suggested talking to someone about it, and he'd agreed it was worth a try. So he'd asked Karolina for some advice, and she'd forwarded his name to a couple therapists she knew on the mainland.
He'd finally gotten the courage to call one of them up while they were on vacation last week, and had set up an appointment.
The appointment itself had been fairly low-key: the therapist had started off by talking a little bit about herself and her particular methods. Then, they'd delved in to the meat of things: why Liam was there. What he hoped to get out of this. His treatment goals. True to Karolina's word, she hadn't so much as batted an eye about Liam's peculiar history.
They hadn't gone too far beyond the surface, the therapist explaining that this first meeting was really more like a mutual interview, testing the waters to see if her methods would meet his needs. Ultimately, by the end of the session they'd decided that they did seem to be a good fit, and so another appointment was made for next week.
Liam supposed he ought to feel good about that. There was, if not progress, then at least the promise of progress. Instead he just felt... small and vulnerable.
He let himself into the apartment, kicking off his shoes and going to tuck himself into the corner of the couch, the coffee he'd picked up for Verity from Starbucks still clutched in his hands as he let his mind just... drift.
[ooc: establishy, but open for calls/texts or if you live here! also please excuse wonky formatting, post was sent via email and will be fixed once i have a chance to sit down at a real computer.]
