MHA #6, Sunday Morning

Over the last few months, Liam had fallen back on a number of old habits, including the one where he only bothered with sleeping the few hours a night that his body required. Instead, he kept busy doing other things, including regular runs around the island. He was on his way back to the apartment for a shower after one such run just now, as a matter of fact.

After that (and making sure the mice- and squirrel!Verity- had breakfast), it was probably tea and a breakfast sandwich at the Perk. What an exciting life he led.

"It was very shocking," Verity insisted. "I had no idea. I assumed we were in for a very chaste and platonic shower."

"I don't believe you for a minute," Liam accused playfully. "You're a terrible liar."

Not precisely true, Verity could lie quite well when the situation warranted it, but this was definitely not one of those times.

"My parents raised me to be an honest person," Verity declared, sounding injured.

And with that lie, they were lucky the whole building wasn't leveled by lightning.

Yeah, there was only so far Liam could go with keeping up that particular pretense, which was why he was burying his face in her hair in a mostly-feeble attempt to hide his snort of laughter.

"Rude," Verity declared. "Those are your in-laws we're talking about."

"Who raised you to be able to lie through your teeth," Liam chided her. "Don't try and pull the wool over my eyes, Kincaid-Price. I know better."

"Well, then I need to get to lie better," Verity said, "if I can't even convince my own husband of stuff."

She grinned at him. And handed over the shampoo.

Get on this, husband.

"Here like this?" since they were still, you know, sitting on the floor of the tub. "Or do you want to stand back up?"

Verity turned around in his lap and kicked at the drain plug. The tub began filling slowly with water from the shower. "There," she said proudly. "Now we're combining the best of both worlds."

Where 'best' involved 'not having to stand.'

“Genius,” Liam declared, rewarding her with a kiss to one shoulder. Then he got to work, squeezing shampoo from the bottle into his hand and reaching over to start lathering it through her hair, taking the time to also gently massage her scalp.

"Mmmm," Verity said, leaning back into his hands. "I can't believe it was months."

Without this. Not even the sex but just the closeness and casual physical intimacy.

“I can,” Liam said mournfully. “Sleeping alone was- weird.”

To the point where he’d kind of stopped bothering. Okay, yes, he’d made it over to the mainland to stay with Dominic a handful of times (just to sleep), but... mostly he’d avoided their bedroom. It didn’t seem right without her.

(Even if she had been there, sort of.)

Squirrel versions didn't count.

"Tonight, we're going to bed early," she declared. "We're going to cuddle, we're going to fuck, and then we're going to sleep. Together."

The way it was supposed to be.

“You’re gonna make me sleep in tomorrow, aren’t you?” Liam asked. He sounded terribly put out about the prospect, yes.

... Though, okay, he’d probably wake up early regardless, but with her there in bed with him he’d be easy enough to convince to stay.

"Absolutely," Verity declared. "You're allowed to get up long enough to make me coffee and breakfast and then it's right back to bed."

“Yes ma’am,” Liam said, solemn tone tinged with a hint of amusement.

[arboreal_priestess]

"We may be allowed to get out of bed by lunch," Verity said. "Maybe."

No promises.

[firstofitskind]

“We’re gonna need to keep our energy up,” Liam said innocently. “For all the sex.”

“And I should probably call and cancel tomorrow’s appointment, then.” Therapy could wait a week, he had months’ worth of Verity-time to catch up on here.

"Tomorrow's appointment?" she asked before she did the math and realized what day it was. "Ohhhh! Oh. I mean...?"

Only if he wanted to!

Liam shrugged, not that she could see it with her back to him as it was.

"I think I can handle missing a week," he assured her. "Especially for such a good cause."

"Well, if you're sure," Verity said, leaning back against him. Made it less comfortable for him to wash her hair, probably, but she was comfy. And closer, so she didn't think he'd mind. "I just. Don't wanna let you go for awhile."

He super did not mind. And besides, wasn't letting the shampoo sit for a few minutes a thing?

(That was conditioner, Liam. But never mind.)

"Funny," he murmured, nuzzling at her shoulder. "I was thinking exactly the same thing."
