29 Chimera Court, Saturday Morning

Well, Liam's age could be measured in the single digits even on weekends where something hadn't happened to cause many of Fandom's residents to wake up as children. That didn't mean that this weekend's weirdness had skipped him, of course. No, the Liam who woke up this morning was actually child-shaped.

Which meant he had regressed to a point where he was still very new to, well, existence. He could tell that something was not-quite-right, but lacked the words to describe just what that was.

What he did know was that he was cold. Which was an easy enough problem to solve, he just pulled the blanket off the chair and wrapped it around his shoulders.

Then there was the strange rumbling sound his stomach was making. That... he didn't know what to do about, exactly. Clearly, some exploration was in order.

It took Nathan a moment to realize he wasn't alone. It took him another few moments to realize that this had to be one of those weekends.

Because of course the island would turn him back in time to find a kid randomly in his house. He blinked across the room at Liam, momentarily confused. And then offered him a friendly smile and a little wave. He'd figure out who the kid was in a bit, he was sure.

"Good morning," he greeted. "Hungry?"

Hungry? What was-

Oh.

Thanks, genetic memories!

He nodded. And his stomach made that noise again, as if to underscore the point.

That earned a blink, and then Nathan nodded a little.

"Right, then." He nodded toward the fridge. "I was about to make breakfast, I could make enough for two."

He paused, and then quietly decided to make at least enough for four. Either his roommates were children or they had children. Either way, it wouldn't be a bad idea to make extra.

And if it turned out that this kid was the only one who came along, well, he had no doubt they could just leave the rest of the food out for Magnus and it would disappear eventually.

Magnus was good for that, it was true.

Liam beamed at Nathan. Breakfast sounded excellent. And speaking of sounds... what was that whistling noise? Something about it sounded familiar.

Or as familiar as something could sound when you had no actual life experience to speak of.

Nathan just smiled and reached to unplug the kettle.

"I'm making tea as well," he explained, "though I'm not certain you'll care for it. There should be juice in the fridge."

Unless someone had finished it off over the course of the week. Nathan wouldn't have. He'd been busy being a tiger, and all.

"How do pancakes sound?" They seemed traditional for these sorts of weekends. "Assuming we have all the ingredients."

"Pancakes," Liam echoed, drawing the word out carefully. Well, look at that, he could in fact speak. "My mother liked tea," he offered. Maybe that meant he would too?

"As did mine," Nathan replied, smiling faintly. Oh, good, the boy could talk. "Would you like to try some, then? In case you like it as well?"

Hey, at least it wasn't coffee and cheerios.

"Yes," Liam decided. "Please," he added, after a moment, because it sounded... right.

It was good enough for Nathan, anyway. He nodded and pulled down a second mug for the boy as well.

"Would you like milk or sugar in yours, then? It can be bitter, if you aren't used to the taste."

Well, hopefully Nathan wouldn't judge him for adding things to his tea, considering his current weetiny state.

"Sugar," he said with a nod.

Nah, Nathan wouldn't judge too much. He liked kids, anyway. He smiled, and then pulled the sugar down and went to rummage for the teabags.

"So," he said, conversationally, "have you got a name? I'm Nathan."

That was a very good question. Did he have a name? "Liam," he replied, a little hesitant at first as he tested the sound of it on his tongue. "My name is Liam." Yes. That sounded right.

"... Huh."

Well, that answered the question about what sort of weekend it was, at least. Nathan nodded as he poured water over the tea and set it aside to steep. He wasn't going to give Liam a scalding hot cup, normally adult or no.

"Well, it's good to meet you, Liam," he replied. "Looks as though you've got an interesting weekend ahead of you."

"This is all interesting," Liam admitted, taking a seat at the kitchen table and drawing the blanket a little more tightly around his shoulders.

"What, tea and breakfast?"

Nathan was now rummaging through the fridge to see what was in there after his week as a cat.

"Yes," Liam nodded. "It's new." Literally everything was at this point, really.

[shiroi_tiger]

That earned another moment's pause.

"Breakfast is new?" Nathan glanced over his shoulder at Liam before surfacing with a carton of eggs and some cheese. He could probably work with this.

"Not just that," Liam shook his head. "Everything."

[shiroi_tiger]

"Everything." Nathan was quiet for a moment, processing that, too. "Is that a good thing?"

He suspected it was. Probably. But he was also kind of confused by this.

"So far," Liam said with a tiny shrug.

[shiroi_tiger]

"Well... good." Nathan paused a moment more, and then pulled down a bowl and started cracking eggs into it. "Let's keep it that way, then, shall we?"

With eggs and cheese, and tea to drink. As you do.

Well, breakfast was a good start to the day, at least?

"That's what I want, too," Liam agreed, continuing to watch the breakfast-preparation with rapt interest.

Nathan gave a satisfied little nod, cracking a few more eggs. He had been planning on pancakes, but scrambled eggs with cheese seemed like a simpler dish to throw together without worrying too much about measuring things out and having to clean up afterward, so scrambled eggs with cheese it was going to be.

"Would you like to help?"

He saw no reason he couldn't hand Liam the bowl and a fork and get him to scramble the contents.

Liam thought about that for a moment.

"Yes," he decided. "What should I do?"

Nathan smiled and held out the bowl.

"I'll get you a fork, and you can mix," he replied. "I'll grate the cheese in, and some milk, salt, and pepper, and you can stir until it's all blended up. How's that sound?"
