29 Chimera Court, Wednesday Morning

When Liam had gone to sleep the night before, he'd been a child. He knew, on some level, that something had gone wrong, because his instructions from his father when he'd been born hadn't involved spending any time as a child, and yet there he was. He hadn't been overly concerned about it, in any case.

Still, when he woke up this morning and noticed that he seemed to be taller, his limbs longer... well. It was a relief.

Until he looked in the mirror and saw a face staring back at him that still seemed kind of childlike. Older, yes, but too young to infiltrate Companion Services and fulfill his destiny. That was... troubling. Perhaps human DNA interacted oddly with Kimera DNA? Liam had no idea, and it wasn't as if there was anyone around he could ask.

He figured he ought to just make the best of it, starting with finding some breakfast.

"I'm ready for another great day of school!" Look, literally nothing could keep Magnus down. Also, this was the second time he'd mysteriously ended up a teenager while at a boarding school.

If any of you motherfuckers had a skateboard, he was gonna punch you for being the bad guy.

Miguel looked over at him. "What do you study?" He didn't recognize him.

"School... stuff? That's a weird ass question," Magnus said. "I mean. It's not like we're in fantasy college or anything."

Good to know that part Magnus was the same.

"I don't know what fantasy you're in; I'm at the Academy," Miguel pointed out a little proudly. "Genetics, engineering, and ancient computer systems."

Magnus coughed the word 'nerd' super loud at that. Because, well, Miguel was a nerd.

Miguel rolled his eyes. He absolutely was a nerd, and knew it. "Yeah, which just means I'll be living sweet in a high-rise while you try to make ends meet. Besides, you were the one all excited for school."

"Shows what you know, I'm gonna join Fantasy NASA," Magnus shot back.

"You mean you're joining NASA in your fantasies?" Miguel asked. "Pretty sure they only take nerds."

"No, pretty sure I said what I said, my dude," Magnus said with a shrug. "Maybe you need to ask mom for food or something."

Mitsutada was starting to feel overrun with children. Yes, he was including Reno in the children category.

But really, it was just like life at the Citadel.

"Do you want breakfast? I'm cooking eggs," he offered, helpfully. "I can do a bit of fish if you like, too."

"You're not my real dad!" Magnus immediately replied. "I mean. Yeah, eggs sound good."

Yes yes, and elvish isn't dorky. It was okay, Magnus.

"I am nobody's dad," Mitsutada said, even though he was 100% one of the two Citadel dads. He was just not anyone's biological dad. "I'm just here to make sure you all don't eat sugar smacks and burnt toast."

He plated a tamagoyaki omelette next to some rice and held it out for Magnus. "Growing boys and all that."

"Thanks, mom." See, mom was okay. Dad was right out.

"You're welcome," Mitsutada said, because really, it also wasn't a bad descriptor. "Are you... going to school today?"

He literally wasn't sure what young actual people did. It wasn't like they would just train and do other chores. Probably?

"Hell yeah! I found this cool new JanSport in my room, so now I just need to hunt down a cool trapper keeper and some Lisa Frank folders and I'll be set."

Yeah, that was how he rolled.

Those words meant absolutely nothing to Mitsutada, so he just rolled with it with a big smile on his face. "Oh well those all seem quite important," he said. "I hope they bring you good luck and good learning today."

"If nothing else, I can use it as a shield." Because the other one in his room was probably cheating.

"That's... good?" Liam tried. Was he he expected to go to school? He hoped not, personally.

"Super good! We gotta there and then regret being there because it's school, amiright?"

"I wouldn't know," Liam admitted. "I've never been to school."

"Homeschooled, huh?" Magnus, no. C'mon now. "It's cool. I've got your back. You know, like prison rules."

Well, in a sense? He'd been born with the full genetic knowledge of all three of his parents, after all. "Prison?" Liam's eyes went wide.

"But no cigarettes. Smoking is for suckers."

"It's a disgusting and wasteful habit."

One of the few things Liam actually agreed with his father about!

"And it makes you smell bad!" Magnus was a rebel, but he wasn't a dummy.
