MHA #6, Friday Evening

It had taken a ridiculously long time to get from the causeway back to Verity's apartment. Mostly because Liam was... let's just say the combination of 'easily distracted' and 'uncoordinated' was working against him in that respect. And Verity's apartment wasn't even that far from the causeway, all things considered.

But they made it, finally, stumbling in through the doorway. Or Liam stumbled, and Verity just patiently guided him towards the couch.

"We're here already?" he exclaimed, surprised. Apparently, it hadn't seemed like such a 'ridiculously long time' to him.

Also, very good at kissing. And he was in a towel and Verity wasn't even in that much and had she mentioned that Liam was very rude? Anyway, she was going to pull away any second now.

Especially since a certain part of Liam's anatomy had apparently not gotten the message about sticking to PG-13 activities. Oops.

WHY WERE YOU BEING THIS WAY, LIAM? WHAT HAD VERITY EVER DONE TO YOU?!

Because you know what was hot? Kissing your boyfriend fresh from the shower and feeling how very into it he was, pressed against your lower stomach. Verity moaned, pressing herself against him even further--and then finally remembered that she was a good person and dragged herself away.

"I don't suppose you sobered up in the last thirty seconds?" she asked.

BESIDES GET HIM HIGH ON THE FIRST PLACE? (Okay, no, that wasn't fair, because again, he'd consented, and neither of them had known this would happen.)

The kicked-puppy look she got in response was probably answer enough to her actual question.

Also, brought him down to the sewers to get his asked kicked, so, really, Liam had had a pretty shitty day thus far and a lot of it was Verity's fault.

"Then no," Verity said, hastily wrapping a towel around herself. "Because we never had the unexpectedly very important 'when you get high on aspirin, can we still have sex?' talk and I'm not that kind of girl."

He'd gone along with her willingly! And getting his ass kicked while providing backup, if you asked him, was certainly preferable to finding out after the fact that Verity had gone down there alone, or something.

"I didn't think it'd come up," Liam said, and then snickered at the unintential innuendo.

Especially since she almost certainly would have died or something. Those Sleestaks were no joke.

"Well, it clearly has," Verity said, also snickering because you didn't have to be high to appreciate a joke of that caliber. "And even if it won't be a big problem in the future, it is right now."

Ba dum tish.

"Yeah..." Liam said breathily, gaze hungrily sweeping over Verity and the very-much-not-anything she was wearing right now. "A big problem."

"Believe me," she said, voice dropping down to a husky whisper, "I am very well acquainted with the magnitude of the problem."

"Ugh," Liam groaned, because he wanted this, and it sure seemed like Verity did too, but she'd said no.

"Clothes," he managed finally. "You need to... clothes." Maybe that would help?

Oh she very much 100% wanted this! But if there was even the least chance his desire was being affected by Sarah's blood--then no. They couldn't. It wouldn't be right.

Ughhhhhh. Morals were the worst.

"So do you," Verity retorted, hands on her hips. "Let's go. Bedroom." Wait, no. "For getting dressed."

Okay, yoga pants and a battered tank top. Those wouldn't be sexy, right?

Well, it was no Argentinian Tango costume, but in Liam's opinion she still looked damn good.

Meanwhile he managed to scrounge up a t-shirt and sweats that he'd left here at some point, himself.

"Okay." Deep breath. What was it they were going to do that was not have sex? Oh, right. "Popcorn?"

"Hmm?" asked Verity, whose brain was still most assuredly in the gutter. "Oh! Right, yeah, popcorn. And dinner. What do you want to eat?"

Beat.

"For food."

Very suave, Very.

It... helped? That Liam was distracted by literally everything right about now. At this particular moment it was the feeling of the sweatpants material against his skin.

"... Sinigang?" he asked hopefully.

Unless Eliot happened to be working, they were probably out of luck on that one.

Clearly, Verity needed to get on the distracted-by-drugs train.

Though confusion helped. "Sini-what?" she asked, standing up on her tiptoes to try to reach the popcorn box. Ugh, stupid not wearing four-inch heels. "I don't think I've ever even heard of what you want for dinner."

It was Sunday. Not Eliot's day at all, sadly.

"Soup," Liam supplied helpfully. "With pork. S'kinda, sweet and sour? So good." Not that he'd ever actually had it himself. But the memory of it was really strong.

"I can call and ask," Verity said, finally grabbing the popcorn box and grabbing a bag. They could eat popcorn while waiting for their dinner and ice cream to arrive. "Any thoughts for a backup just in case?"

Though if they couldn't get it tonight, Verity was going to haunt the diner until they figured out how to prepare it for another day.

"Iunno," he shrugged. "Whatever's on special?" And given that it was Sunday, that was... probably pancakes assuming the cook had woken up from their nap by then.

"At the very least, I'm ordering us burgers," Verity declared. "Red meat and green leafies, remember? You don't speed up blood replacement by eating carbs."

...Popcorn and ice cream aside. Those weren't dinner.

Except when they were, Verity.

"And onion rings," Liam added. Because greasy sounded amazing right about now.

They were dessert and pre-dinner appetizer, Liam, and don't you forget it.

"Definitely onion rings," Verity agreed. "But also fries."

Because fries.

"Can I trust you to watch the popcorn and make sure it doesn't burn while I give the diner a call?" YOU GOT DISTRACTED BY WATER DROPLETS, LIAM, VALID QUESTION.

"Of course!" Liam said, giving Verity a wide-eyed affronted look. "I am very trustworthy. You even said so!"

Being trustworthy in general and being trustworthy in this specific instance were two entirely separate things.

"You're more trustworthy when I can't distract you by dangling water droplets off my fingers," Verity said, pulling out her phone and calling the diner.

And Liam had no reply to that because he was too busy watching the timer on the microwave count down with single-minded determination.

So long as the bag didn't spontaneously combust before the countdown hit zero, they'd be in business.

"--hang on, let me check." Verity moved the phone to ask Liam, "So they can't do your sinigang right now, but they can whip up pozole instead? Pork soup with hominy? Spicy and sour?"
