MHA #6, Sunday Morning

Over the last few months, Liam had fallen back on a number of old habits, including the one where he only bothered with sleeping the few hours a night that his body required. Instead, he kept busy doing other things, including regular runs around the island. He was on his way back to the apartment for a shower after one such run just now, as a matter of fact.

After that (and making sure the mice- and squirrel!Verity- had breakfast), it was probably tea and a breakfast sandwich at the Perk. What an exciting life he led.

“Hey,” Liam said. “It’s okay. It’s just a day. Not like I won’t have another one next year...”

He was leaning in to that hug like whoa though, because one of the things he’d really missed? Was that casual human contact she offered him so freely.

"We're going to have makeup birthdays," Verity decided. "Because this is ridiculous."

“Makeup birthdays, huh? I can get behind that,” Liam decided. “Just the two of us, or should we invite Dominic? And does that mean you want to hold off on opening your presents?”

"Two makeup birthdays," Verity amended. "Or maybe even three, for a party. And yes, holding off until I get you presents at the very least."

She'd intended to! But then she'd been a squirrel!

Engaging in capitalism as a squirrel was difficult! Unless you were after rum. Or notepads and pencils.

Liam couldn’t help but brighten visibly at the mention of a party. For all his broody exterior, he really was something of a social creature at heart.

“It’s a deal,” he said, placing a kiss on her forehead before backing away to start getting undressed.

Verity was watching avidly and not even pretending otherwise.

Because you know what else was impossible to get as a squirrel?

Laid.

“Like what you see?” Liam teased, like he hadn’t been looking her over appreciatively immediately after making sure she was in fact really back.

"Always," Verity sighed, giving him bedroom eyes. "Entirely."

"God, I've missed you," Liam said, voice husky with desire.

Verity shivered; that was some dirty pool right there, Liam. "Shower..." she croaked, more as a reminder to herself. "I need--shower. Umm."

Dammit, Liam, be less sex on legs!

"I need you," Liam admitted, reaching over to turn on the shower while trying not to actually break eye contact.

Which meant while he managed to get the water started, there was a little bit of less-than-sexy blind fumbling around for the control as he did so.

Yeah, but the less-than-sexy fumbling was endearing in its own way. "You sure you just wanna help me wash my back?" she asked, archly, slipping into the shower.

"No," Liam admitted cheekily. "I was only trying to be a gentleman."

[arboreal_priestess]

"After several months of me being a squirrel, fuck being a gentleman," Verity said, holding her face up to the spray.

[firstofitskind]

"Oh, that was the plan eventually," Liam assured her, hopping in after. "But," he added, "I'm all too happy to skip right to that part, believe me."

"Wait, wait," she teased. "Tell me more about what this 'being a gentleman' was going to entail."

[firstofitskind]

"Well," he drawled. "I seem to remember pointing out that I was feeling very overdressed, and then someone saying they thought they needed a shower first, so I was going to at least wait until we'd washed your hair before I..."

And then he was pinning her up against the shower wall, kissing her fiercely... and going all glowy and non-corporeal.

Oops.

For the record, that was not what he'd meant to happen.

"...You gotta be fucking kidding me."

Well, at least in the state Liam was currently in, Verity could likely feel his joy at being able to do this with her once again...

But also a distinct sense of embarrassment at how quickly he'd lost control of himself. Because honestly, he'd absolutely had something a little more physical in mind. But then, much like a certain prom night a few years ago, physiology took over and here they were.

Just. Give him a moment or two. He'd be back to himself.

... Annnnd there he was. Burying his face in her shoulder and muttering: "Oh god." But like, not in a sexy, turned-on kind of way. In an utterly mortified kind of way.

Verity couldn't help but laugh, holding him tightly. "Been that long, huh?" she teased, taking his hand so he could feel that she is laughing with him, not at him.

You could laugh at him a little, Verity; he kind of deserved it.

"Months," he said plaintively. "Sorry, sorry, sorry," he added, punctuating each repetition with a kiss to her shoulder, the line of her jaw, her lips.

Verity held her face up to his, reveling in each kiss. "You're back," she said. "And that's what matters."

Liam chuckled. “Thought I was supposed to be saying that to you, love,” he pointed out.

"Too late, lost the opportunity," Verity teased. Purposefully sliding his hands down to grip her rear. "I've claimed it."

How convenient, since that's what he'd planned to do with his hands anyway.

"Mmm," he hummed. "Anything else you'd like to claim while you're at it?" he asked, giving the flesh beneath his fingers a gentle squeeze.
