Liam had made plans with Kaidan and Verity to go on something of a joyride today, so he'd shown up at the junkyard early to give himself time to do an extra-thorough pre-flight check.

The virtual glass shimmered and became permeable as the shuttle recognized his biometrics, and he sat down in the pilot's seat and brought up the HUD.

ID core, optimal; conventional drive, optimal; weapons, optimal; communications, online; backup controls, online... everything seemed to be in working order. Now he just needed his passengers.

She leaned forward and gave him a fond kiss. Look, that grin was just asking for one. "Good," she said. "We can trade flying lessons for tango."

"Seems fair to me," Liam agreed. "You show me how to dance on the ground, I'll show you how to dance up here." And if he executed a complicated little maneuver with a flourish of his hand to emphasize, well...

Sometimes he liked being dramatic, okay?

And was generally adorable when he did.

"I like it when we dance together," she said, giving him a look from under her lashes. "All the different ways we dance together."

And oh, how he loved that look, the one that promised things that... well. Weren't the kind of things they could do when they had company.

"Couldn't ask for a better partner," he agreed.

"I am pretty great at the tango, I'll give you that," she said, threading her fingers through his and letting their palms touch.

"By the way, sorry about earlier. I didn't know Abrazo was coming along to make a grand and, err, public announcement," she added, very softly.

"Don't apologize," Liam said, sending her a quick burst of affection via the Sharing as he spoke. "They have an unerring sense of dramatic timing, after all. And besides... it means they really know I'm in this for the long haul, doesn't it?" He knew the mice liked him, sure, but to know, for real, that they approved of how serious his and Verity's relationship had become... well. It was important.

"Little drama hounds, all of them," Verity said with a laugh. "And...yeah. It takes more than just sleeping with a priestess to make a god, after all."

She poked him in the arm, playfully. "Don't be surprised if you end up with mice of your own eventually," she warned. "Your actions need to be cataloged for the catechism."

"Oh god," Liam groaned. "Would they follow me to the station? Because the amount of nonsense I deal with there..."

If Recycling Amnesty Day somehow became an Aeslin Holy Day, there would be a lot of headdesking.

"I'm sure if you just make your wishes clear, the mice will respect them," Verity said. Well, lied. With a straight face. "You're a god, remember? That's gotta count for something!"

Liam let out an extremely dignified scoff at Verity's statement.

"You say that like I haven't spent a significant portion of the last few months staying over in your apartment," Liam pointed out. He'd seen just how likely they were to entertain Verity's wishes after all.

If there weren't food bribes involved, the answer was generally 'extremely unlikely'. And even food bribes didn't always work.

"Oh, I'm just a lowly priestess," Verity tried. "It's different. You? They'll definitely listen to you."

Your girlfriend was a liar, Liam Kincaid. A damn, dirty liar.

"You're a terrible liar," Liam informed her.

Not technically true; Verity could be a damned good liar when she needed to be. But right now? Not so much.

Verity batted her eyes at him. "But you still love me," she pointed out. Gleefully.

"I sure do," Liam agreed. "Lucky for you, the terrible poker face wasn't a deal breaker."

Sorry not sorry, Kaidan, that you got a front row seat (so to speak) to this particular schmoopfest.

They were still in that disgustingly lovey period that arose after one person saved the other's life with a quip and a dashing look that led to confessions of love thwarted by therianthropes.

...All couples had that moment, right?

"Because the rest of this face is cute as hell," she said, laughing.

"It's certainly one of my favorite faces to look at," Liam said, grinning back at her.

"Well, now I need to know who the other ones are," Verity declared. "Just to know who the competition is."

Hopefully the grin she was giving him made it clear she was joking about 'competition.'

Liam fished his Global out of his jacket pocket and slid it open before tossing it to Verity.

"Photos folder," he told her.

Amongst the plethora of goofy selfies-with-Verity and candids-of-Verity, there were also a number of pictures of a little girl and a
dark-haired woman, clearly her mother.

Verity's face softened at the sight of the little girl. "Your friend?" she asked, looking up at him with warm eyes. "The one who suggested Sarah's hotel?"

"You'll probably have to scroll a bit more to find any pictures of Renee, actually." Liam admitted. "She likes to go through and delete the ones that don't meet her approval. ~~Because I couldn't find any that I liked while writing the previous ping on the bus ride home~~. Lili- I've known Lili my whole life, though." Literally. She'd been there when he was born. Not that he was going to elaborate while they had company, but Lili had been one of the people to basically teach him how to person.

"And her daughter?" Verity asked. "Hate to say it, but there's pretty much no contest about who the cutest girl on your phone is."

THOSE CHEEKS.

“Ariel,” Liam said. “You’d like her, I bet. She’s scrappy.”

"Good trait to have," Verity agreed. "So, did you send Lili pictures of your kids, back when we had 'em?"

"I did, actually. She was... concerned." Liam didn't elaborate on why, but Verity could probably guess.

"She didn't understand how I could have children that old and still look so young and beautiful?" Verity teased, because yes, she did know.
